DAY 1: Arrival, Concepción Trails & Twilight River
Navigating to the Lodge
Upon arriving at Puerto Maldonado Airport, you will be welcomed by our Inkaterra staff and transferred to the Butterfly House lounge before boarding a motorized wooden boat at the river port. Enjoy a scenic 25-minute navigation down the Madre de Dios River to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción. After settling into your Superior Room or Private Cabaña, head to the Casa Grande dining room for a freshly prepared lunch.
The Concepción Trails & Twilight River Cruise
In the afternoon, walk along the Concepción Trails with your Inkaterra Explorer Guide, discovering primary and secondary terra firme rainforest, native medicinal plants, and strangler figs. At dusk, board a motorized boat for the Twilight River excursion—witnessing the transition from daytime wildlife to nocturnal species while searching for white caimans and capybaras along the riverbanks.

DAY 2: Lake Sandoval, Canopy Walkway & Hidden Forest
The Glassy Waters of Lake Sandoval
After an early breakfast, trek along a sun-dappled rainforest trail into the protected Tambopata National Reserve. Board a wooden dugout canoe to paddle quietly through a flooded Mauritia palm forest onto the mirror-like surface of Lake Sandoval—home to endangered giant river otters, red howler monkeys, prehistoric hoatzins, red-bellied macaws, and black caimans. Return to the lodge for lunch.
The Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Night Safari
In the afternoon, travel 20 minutes upriver to ascend the famous Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Climb a 38-meter (124 ft) tower to walk across a 344-meter network of seven hanging suspension bridges and two observation platforms high in the treetops, spotting toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, and sloths. After dark, venture out on the "Hidden Forest" night walk armed with flashlights to observe nocturnal amphibians and insects.

DAY 3: Departure from Hacienda Concepción
Farewell to the Amazon
Wake to the chorus of parakeets and howler monkeys echoing across the reserve. Following a full breakfast in the Casa Grande, embark on your motorized boat for the 25-minute return navigation up the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado, with a brief stop at the Inkaterra Butterfly House before your airport drop-off.

Essential Recommendations
- Riverboat Luggage Allowance: Due to boat space, bring only a duffel bag or carry-on backpack (max 10kg) to the lodge. Your large suitcases will be safely stored at the Inkaterra lounge in Puerto Maldonado.
- Rainforest Packing: Pack lightweight, neutral-colored, long-sleeved shirts and trousers, a waterproof poncho, insect repellent, high-SPF sunscreen, and a flashlight/headlamp.
