Day 1
Amaru Community, ruins of Pisaq & Ollantaytambo
In the morning, your private driver and guide will meet you at your hotel, in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, and take you to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The first stop will be Pisaq, here in the company of your guide, you will explore the most traditional market in the Sacred Valley and its many colourful handcrafts, which represent many local traditional products and make for excellent souvenirs. Here, villagers come and bring the produce and handcrafts from their communities in order to sell them. Then, you will visit the archeological complex of PIsaq, which in times of yore served religious, military and agricultural purposes. The ruins were built in a strategic position overlooking the valley, from there, you will be afforded a stunning view while you explore unique sites like the Sun Temple, a cemetery, water ducts and agricultural terraces. You will have the opportunity to visit the Andean community of Amaru, where you will experience the daily life of a typical mountain community and observe how the people weave textiles, such as belts blankets and how they grow and harvest their produce. You will also have an opportunity to taste the food they prepare with products that they themselves harvest.
Then, you will head to Ollantaytambo, one of the last Incan refuges during Spanish colonization. Here, you will be able to appreciate the unique architecture, narrow streets (so narrow cars do not fit), cobblestone paths and beautiful landscape. The powerful and impressive Ollantaytambo ruins, temples and terraces will, once again, leave you without wods. These sites continue to be well preserved since the Spanish conquest and provide an incredible perspective of how towns were designed during the Incan period. Finally, we will take you back to your hotel, in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
